Family Visits - 26 Jul – 13 Aug 2006
Denise and Family's Visit
Four days after we arrived back to Oxnard from Fiji, on 26 Jul, Denise arrived with our Grandchildren Meg and EJ, and Meg’s friend Jenny. We had a great time and the week went by in a blink, with not quite enough time for beach and just kicking back. As you can imagine with so many girls we did shopping, shopping and more shopping at many fun venues (Outlets, LA garment district, Rodeo Drive). To round up the activities they also spent a fun day at Disneyland, a day at Venice Beach and the usual relaxing electric boat ride at the Channel Islands Harbor except this time we had some excitement when the boat lost power and had to be towed back by the Harbor Assist boat to get a different boat. We had a wonderful dinner at the Embassy Suites Hotel restaurant on Saturday night and reminisced about Steve and Beth’s wedding on the sand, where the kids took some nice photos.
The weather was not entirely cooperative with some unusually hot days and then overcast morning which was not conducive to sunning at the beach. Lance and EJ went to play mini golf and fishing on the Port Hueneme Pier and although surrounded by people pulling in all kinds of fish, they managed to get not one single nibble. We wrapped up the visit, on Aug 1st, spending a quiet day at the beach and then rushing off to the airport to catch a red-eye flight back to Baltimore..
We spent the following week preparing for the Alaska trip, and enjoyed catching with friends we haven’t seen for the months we spent down under.
Inbal’s Visit
Dahlia’s 19 year old niece, Inbal arrived on Aug 9th for a visit from Israel. Her visit was short but packed with lots of fun. Inbal is the Dahlia’s brother Igal’s daughter, and was making her first international trip by herself. She arrived after a 24 hour journey amazingly full of energy and ready to shop straight off the plane. Dahlia took her to the LA garment district and, after dinner, the Premium Outlet. Our friends, Bill and Jan Wilson, came over one day and we all went kayaking in the Harbor. Lance took Inbal to Universal Studios one day where we toured the back lot; she got soaked at the Nickelodeon water works and we went to see the Waterworld show, which was a laugh. On the final day before leaving CA Dahlia and Inbal spent a lovely day in Santa Barbara walking the pier and exploring State Street. On the way to the airport we managed a short visit to Venice beach and then all three of us flew to Seattle for the last part of her visit. (For our adventure in Lopez Island see next segment.)
